We are the American Legion, relentless champions of veterans and service members and their families, and dedicated to ending veteran suicide.
We are the spouses, mothers, daughters, granddaughters and sisters of American veterans, working to support veteran causes and military families.
We are the sons and grandsons of those who served in the U.S. military. In their honor, we place high importance on preserving American traditions and values.
We are American Legion Riders, well known for raising thousands of dollars for local organizations and for riding to honor and protect the sanctity of veteran funerals.
The American Legion, chartered by Congress in 1919, evolved from a group of war-weary veterans of The Great War into one of the most influential nonprofit organization in the United States, providing health, legal, educational resources to veterans, servicemembers, and their communities. Post 50 was established in Paso Robles in 1924 and its force of local veterans works with community partners to help veterans and their families navigate Veterans Affairs hospitals and clinics, pension issues, and healthcare needs and provides opportunities for civic engagement and Americanism to local youth.
Each year, American Legion Post 50 sends two high school juniors to attend BOYS STATE in Sacramento, one of the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. What is American Legion Boys State? (youtube.com)
Join us on Thursdays between 11-1 for good food and lots of camaraderie!
We are the spouses, mothers, daughters, granddaughters and sisters of American veterans. We know that military service is a sacrifice for the whole family, so ALA members quietly look for ways to ease the burden in this community— whatever it takes to get that family back on their feet physically, mentally, socially, and vocationally. If we don’t have the resources, we connect military families with our partners who do.
Each year, Paso Robles ALA Unit 50 sends one high school junior to attend GIRLS STATE in Sacramento where she will have the opportunity to broaden her knowledge and skills in civic engagement, consensus building, advocacy, and service learning. She will also gain experience in self-advocacy and public speaking, as well as how to develop social capital by building networks and relationships. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZ9DUrdOacw
The American Legion Auxiliary adopted the poppy as its memorial flower in 1921 and started its Poppy Program in 1924. Today, Paso Robles ALA Unit 50 members distribute hundreds of poppies, which symbolize freedom and the blood sacrificed by troops, during the month of May. Donations received go directly to assist veterans and veteran services in our community, including Central Coast Veterans Helping Veterans and the Honor Flight.
We are the proud Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L), an organization honoring our parents and/or grandparents who served in the military as we provide support and honor to all our veterans, their families, and to our local community. If you have a parent or grandparent who served in the military, consider joining our family, join the Sons of The American Legion.
Our main mission is to support American Legion programs, such as those that improve veteran communities and youth sports. We also promote national security, patriotism, and Americanism in the classroom.
All male descendants of veterans who served honorably are eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.
All members of the American Legion Riders are current members of the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion. Chapter 50 members ride to honor fallen military men and women, and to protect the sanctity of their funerals from those who would dishonor their memory. We escort military units to departure airfields and airports for combat tours overseas and welcome them home upon their return.
Since 2006, Chapter 50 has raised thousands of dollars for local charities, including Boys & Girls Club, Thanksgiving for Paso Robles, SLO Food Bank, and Skills USA.
